The PlayPump Project
A simple solution to a serious problem

This social studies package is based around the PlayPump. A fantastic invention to address water shortage problems in rural areas of southern Africa. It is a positive and meaningful topic that will engage students and have them investigate an issue in an overseas setting.
INTRODUCTION
This package is a self-contained mini-unit that teachers can use to inspire students and have them think critically about a social sustainability issue. It is aimed at students from Year 7 to 10

Using a variety of supplied short articles and video clips students explore different viewpoints on the PlayPump, decide how sustainable it is, and whether the project should continue.

The tasks can be done with pen and paper as a teacher-led activity, or completed independently online. Students would typically complete the task over several class sessions.
