A note about the Gaza Conflict and its conspicuous absence from the Weekly Quiz.
The Gaza conflict is the big news story at the moment, and is obviously a very difficult situation.
We’ve received emails from a few schools around the country saying that questions relating to it has raised problems for some students and their parents. There have been issues for families with perspectives from both sides of the conflict, and we have had requests from some schools to not have any questions about the Gaza conflict at all. We also run a quiz for Australia and Britain, and have had similar issues there.
We’ve decided to avoid any questions about it for now and let schools make their own choices about how to discuss the conflict with their students.
I’m sure you’ll realise we normally cover the full breadth of news stories, with the usual exceptions of crime, violence and adult themes. We try to reflect what is happening in our news and media and how it is reported, but also keep it appropriate for the classroom. But I hope you understand this situation is a little different. Hopefully, there can be some sort of resolution there soon.
