The Weekly Quiz

With a Weekly Quiz subscription, you get a professionally designed current events quiz for each week of the school year. It helps students to keep up-to-date with current events and general knowledge in a safe way and contains visual material that leads to many class discussions about society and the real world.

Apart from running it as a class quiz, some schools also use it for research starters, team challenges, homework or as a newsletter competition. See the testimonials below for more examples, or look at the sample quiz to think how it could be used with your learners.

What’s included in the Weekly Quiz?

Each week the quiz consists of twenty international and New Zealand questions that help learners understand the news and the world around them. Questions cover politics, events, issues, discoveries, sport, entertainment, knowledge etc.

We focus on news items that are safe for the classroom, avoiding violent crime and inappropriate content for the classroom. Our quizzes are used in a wide variety of state and private schools.

There are five visual questions each week that include people, places, events, flags etc

The Multi-choice, True/False and Short Answer questions make it easy for students to complete and engage in the quiz. The questions formats lead to straight-forward answers and limit confusion or disagreement.

Some background information is provided with each answer to outline the news story and what has happened. Even if the teacher hasn’t heard the story themselves, they can use the background information to provide context to the students.

Depending on the subscription level you choose,
the quiz can be provided as:
– a printable worksheet (PDF)
– a classroom presentation (Powerpoint)
– an online quiz completed on individual or group devices (Interactive using the Socrative platform)

I would like to let you know how much we have enjoyed your quizzes. I download them every Monday and put a copy in the staffroom and on our staff intranet. The teachers are using the quizzes in a variety of ways, e.g chopping them up and matching the answers to the questions, research groups etc and we put one question a week in our newsletter with the answer the following week. I organise the class into teams of 4 to take the quiz on the class TV. Teams which achieve 20/20 get a prize (this is very difficult to achieve and highly prized). As a class, we can spend a long time discussing our opinions about what is happening in the news. I have also run a spelling programme off the quiz too. Thanks for your quiz. We have used the Current Events quiz in junior SST for several years. It’s so easy to roll it out each week, and it’s great for relief lessons. We’ve used all the versions – pdf, slideshow and Socrative quiz. Every week there is something to spark discussion in class.

Thank you for the weekly quiz, delivered without fail each Sunday. The quiz is very popular. My Year 7 class in particular have enjoyed the activity this year. I send a copy home on Monday. The idea is that families do this at home. I then have group competitions on a Friday.

The students love it and it's become very competitive. I now use it with my seniors, as they became quite envious of the Year 9 & 10 class. During Covid lockdown, the Weekly Quiz was the only topic everyone completed.
